Easy Broccoli Stir Fry

You’re making something Asian for dinner.  Something Chinese, something Thai, something Vietnamese, something Korean.  And you need a side dish.  This is that side dish.  The dish you order when you are calling for take out, or rounding out your table’s order at a Chinese restaurant.  Stir-Fried Broccoli.  The dish that everyone likes, that’s simple enough to please the kids, but delicious enough that no one will pass it up.

And the good news; stir frying broccoli couldn’t be easier to make at home.  It’s basically broccoli plus ginger plus garlic plus soy sauce.  Sure you can add in other things, like oyster sauce, or sesame oil, and give it even more flavor.  But if you just want to stick to the basics, you won’t be sorry.

Cutting Broccoli into Florets

You can cut the broccoli into large or small florets, as you wish.  The bigger the florets, the more time they will take to become tender (or crisp-tender, depending on how you like your broccoli).  But don’t throw out those stems!  They are just as delicious as the broccoli.  Once you cut the tops into florets, trim the bottoms from the stems, peel off the tough outer skin from the stems, and cut the peeled stems into 1/2 -inch slices.  Add those right in with the florets.  No waste, and more broccoli for you.

How to Stir Fry Broccoli

Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.  Add the broccoli and stir-fry for 5 minutes until it turns bright green with some brown spots.

Add the ginger and garlic and stir-fry for 1 more minute until the broccoli is almost tender, then add ¼ cup water, and cover the pan.

  1. I didn’t have any ginger, do I pumped it up with some cayenne and peanut sauce. Way better tasting than I thought it would be. Super easy and quick to make.
