It takes about 2 minutes to make seasoned flour at home, which adds a layer of flavor to all kinds of recipes and aids in browning. Use in breading, gravies, sauces, and more.
½ to 1teaspooncayenne pepper, paprika, onion powder or garlic powder, or a combination (optional)
Instructions
Place the flour in a shallow bowl. Add the salt and pepper and any additional seasonings you like. Stir until everything is well blended.
Dredge the protein or item of your choice in the flour, meaning roll or press the food into the flour to coat it thoroughly. Tongs can be helpful, or use your hands. Tap to remove any excess flour from the food. Prepare (such as sautéing, browning, or frying) according to the recipe.
Notes
Excess seasoned flour that has not been touched by raw foods can be stored in an airtight container for up to a month. While it is easy to make, mixing up a bit extra and storing it in the cupboard could save you time later! Just be sure to label it with the seasonings you added.
