March is the month that confuses me most in the kitchen year after year. I know it’s supposed to come in like a lion and go out like a lamb, and sometimes it does do just that. However, sometimes it doesn’t, and whether it does or not, between the 1st and the 31st it’s anyone’s guess as to what the day might hold weatherwise.
My birthday is March 11th and I feel like some years on my birthday I have worn a parka, mittens, gloves, and a scarf, and definitely sported an umbrella, and on other years I have worn a light sweater. And the food situation mirrors the mercurial nature of the weather. One day, it’s a stew moment. Next, it’s a salad with asparagus and sugar snap peas.
But if this past year has been a lesson in learning how to relinquish control and taking it as it comes, then we can certainly get through the ups and downs of the early spring season. Plus, there are a number of holidays nestled in there, from St. Patrick’s Day to the start of Passover, and Easter is just moments away in April. Here are some of the somewhat incongruent recipes I’ll be thinking about throughout the weeks to come!
9 Seasonal Recipes to Make This March
Greek-Style Butterflied Leg of Lamb with Feta Sauce

Annie
Silver Palate Chicken Marbella
“This is five-star recipe! Many thanks for reminding me of seders in the past when this was my “go to” recipe for the crowd. It’s good at room temp as well for later in the week.”
Sandy
Jewish Brisket for the Holidays
“Loved the brisket and loved the beef barley soup. Both are definitely going in my rotation of meals.”
Sally
“Telling you right now 100% worth it! Made it for my sister and brother in law and they loved it!”
Aziza
Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken Meatballs
“Used my food processor to grind boneless chicken thighs. And used about 1/3 cup of an alternate hot sauce, as I did not have Frank’s. I appreciated your hint to use less of another brand. The meatballs were really tasty with your blue cheese dip!”
Laura
Slow Cooker Corned Beef and Cabbage
“The kids and I made this tonight in our mini loaf pan. Soooooo good!! Finally found the perfect recipe.”
Maranda
Shepherd’s Pie
“Love love LOVE this recipe! Used Idahoan instant mashed potatoes when I was in a time crunch, and they worked out great with me adding the cheese. This recipe is great because it is easy to modify if you don’t have all the ingredients on hand. Thanks for sharing it with us! “
A-net
“My husband absolutely loved this recipe. The only thing I did different was stir fry it in toasted sesame oil instead of canola or vegetable. It was absolutely delicious. I know he will be asking for this dish at least once a month!”
Cheryl
Garlicky Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan
“I make this at least once a week for my family. My kids cannot get enough of it!”
