Pot of Chili

Oh, is the Superbowl this Sunday? I almost forgot. It’s not like I live in New York City where the traffic is snarled for miles because of Superbowl Boulevard, (toboggan ride, anyone?) and you can buy a Broncos or a Seahawks jersey or thong in any number of locations (yes, I said thong).

And if you’ve spent 5 seconds on Pinterest then you’re also probably aware that people like to cook and eat things while they watch the Superbowl. I have been completed gob-smacked by the amount of people who are creating mini replicas of football stadiums using actual foods. If you’ve ever done this, or seen one in real life. you must let me know; I’m a little fascinated.

Of course we all need a menu, a strategy, a game plan. And while I am sure mine will evolve as I get closer to the day itself (I am already thinking of adding wings and carnitas), here’s what on the docket so far.

I am going to cut grilled cheese sandwiches into little squares, and put out a big platter of Deviled Eggs. And then some Prosciutto Wrapped Shrimp with Smoked Paprika: Fancy? Yeah, a little. Don’t make fun of me. And you know you want one.

Chili

For a main course there are certain fallback foods that just always work for game days and big groups who might be grazing over a period of time. Turkey Chili may be the very best example of this kind of dish. Rice, and tons of toppings. And Corn Muffins, a perfect partner to the chili.

Hard to top a classic moist Fudgy One-Pot Brownie to wrap things up. And a basket of Gingersnaps, too. What are you making???
