What does a teenage football-playing boy and an American Pygmy Shrew have in common? They both eat 3 times their body weight every day in food.

Okay, that is NOT true (well, it’s true about the American Pygmy Shrew), but if you are the person who is feeding one or more teenage boys then you might feel like that statement is believable. All I know is that starting in late August and heading into November my guys are in full-on football mode, working hard and eating like there isn’t a bottom in sight.

And I’m cooking as fast (and as much) as I can. But that stretch between lunch and dinner is long, and real fuel is needed. Crunchy snacks might stem the tide for a minute or two, but we’re looking for substance here.

And that is why when the nice people at Mighty Organic asked me if I might be interested in working with them to share the news about their new 100% Grass-fed Mighty Organic Beef Sticks, I jumped to say yes. Gary and the boys (as well as a small furry little boy with a wet nose who lives with us…why yes, it’s our dog, Cooper) – are beef snacks fans. Enthusiasts. Zealots.

A stick or two of beef hits that crave-spot after practice perfectly. But that’s not the only time we reach for these Mighty Organic Sticks. They get taken in the car, brought on hikes, tucked into totes when we’re heading to the beach, slipped into ski jackets. Gary rides a bike to work, and sticks one in his back pocket to reward himself for getting to the office on his own steam.

If only the sticks came with wrappers that picked themselves up and threw themselves away, they would be completely perfect.

Packed with protein (6 grams per stick), and made from 100% grass-fed beef, Mighty Organic Beef Sticks are that satisfying snack that gets the job done, and then some. Available in three flavors: Original, Spicy Jalapeño and Teriyaki, the Mighty Organic Sticks are made from real ingredients, none of the filler junk, and free of gluten, pesticides, antibiotics, GMOs and therefore free of the nagging concern that we could be doing something better for ourselves and our families.

So what’s all the fuss about 100% grass-fed beef? Is the flavor really that much better? Yes, but not just that, it’s healthier too because it’s higher in omega-3s and CLA (a good fat – we love good fats) because the cows spend their days in organic pastures, where they eat nothing but grass.

They don’t have to be refrigerated, so that makes it easy to keep a few in a backpack, briefcase, or handbag, in a desk drawer, and – always – in the snack drawer in our house, where they are one of the first things the guys see when they open the drawer, and one of the first things they grab.

Mighty Organic Beef Sticks are part of the Mighty Organic line of 100% Grass-fed beef snacks, which includes Mighty Organic Jerky and Mighty Organic Bars, which are also favorites in our house.

And if you want to see Cooper do his two doggie tricks, “sit” and “paw” all you have to do is share the very last bit of your stick with him. Good dog.
