Salad on a Stick
I’m a firm believer that everything tastes better on a stick and, furthermore, that kids are more willing to try something if it’s on a stick. Are there a lot of sad faces at State Fairs? No, there are not, and it’s not just because everything has been deep-fried (at least I don’t think that’s the only reason).
Combine that happy thought with the less cheery idea that many kids struggle with vegetables. To put it delicately.
One of the things that has worked in our world is to skewer up things that don’t ordinarily get skewered, and the simple change in presentation often alters the response to the food. That’s a lot of words. Salad on a stick is more fun that salad NOT on a stick. There, that’s fewer words.
Just cube up whatever vegetables are in the refrigerator, and slide them right onto a wooden skewer (you could use a chopstick if your kids are little, and you’re worried about the pointy stick. You can serve salad dressing on the side for dipping, or drizzle it over. And you might even let them skewer up their own combinations, making the end result even more enticing because its their own creation.
In comedy, they say timing is everything, and when it comes to kids, sometimes presentation is everything. Try fruit salad on a stick for an extremely healthy and quite pretty breakfast, dessert, or snack.
